Stephen Flynn is the only person to mention #Gaza at today's #PMQs. Xxx

in reply to Geri ™️

well there are now so many tories in labour, they are the Real Conservatives now.

Geri ™️ reshared this.

in reply to Estarriol The Old

@Thebratdragon Even without these Tories that was already the case.

The UK suffers from the same problem the US has: both main parties in essentially an ancient two-party system are right-of-center liberals.

Corbyn might have been on the far left of the party, Starmer is at the far-right of it...

@wanwizard
@Thebratdragon @Geri @seb321 it's also the case that in the last 50 years only 2 Labour leaders have ever been elected PM. Harold Wilson (barely) in 1974, and Tony Blair.

That's it. In half a bloody century. And neither of those were anywhere near the left of their party, even though Wilson seems vaguely lefty by today's Labour Party standards.

in reply to Estarriol The Old

@Thebratdragon @losttourist @wanwizard @seb321 I recall watching Blair's landslide. I thought this was good news. Six months later.......

IF he had stopped with the GFA, he would have been remembered as a great PM.

BUT his ego would not let him stop there

in reply to Geri ™️

Maybe they could do without general elections altogether and MPs just move between parties like kids on Runaround

Geri ™️ reshared this.

in reply to Seb

@seb321 If MPs were allowed to vote freely, without fear of the whip, even that would not be needed, they could just vote down bad policies.

For this reason, in many countries government ministers don't have a seat in parliament, as parliament is there to take the government to account.

Was ist eure Erfahrung?

Donald Trump says abortion is “really not that big of an issue.”

We’re not going to let the leader of the GOP get away with rewriting history on his support for abortion bans. Your donation allows our organizers around the country to talk to more voters about Republicans’ real records of restricting our reproductive freedom. PM of #Lithuania Ingrida #Šimonytė told the FT she had parliamentary permission to send troops to #Ukraine for training purposes — something her government has floated before — but that #Kyiv had not yet asked for this.

Šimonytė acknowledged that #Russia would consider it a provocation, but added: “If we just thought about the Russian response, then we could not send anything. Every second week you hear that somebody will be nuked.”

Here are your options.

Biden gave a speech on remembering the Holocaust. Trump fell asleep listening to a porn star testify about having unprotected sex with him while he was married with a young child at home.

Those are your options.

If you post to #StackExchange, you license that content to them under CC-BY-SA. You can't revoke that license, so you can't remove that content.

It shouldn't surprise you that they stop you from trying. Imagine a Wikipedia editor trying to remove their edits.

However, what it does give you is the right to host _all_ of SE elsewhere. To fork it, if SE violates its contract with the community. This is how SE was always designed to work. From an interview with Spolsky:

in reply to Peter Bloem

this is super interesting so theres nothing stopping us from making a totally free fedi version of all of StackExchange content on here without their bullshit?
in reply to Liaizon Wakest

@liaizon Yeah. Some people have already made start at codidact.org

It's not federated, and the SE content isn't fully copied over, but the more nonsense the SE management pulls, the more of this we'll see.

For analogue I like to use an A5 notebook with pre-punched stationery (both common in Japan) but could never find a suitable A5 punch to make printing my own stationery worthwhile. Memo to self: try AliExpress (haven't looked for one for years).

For digital *nothing* beats MLO (https://MyLifeOrganized.net). I don't need it as much now but pay for updates bc it's made by Ukrainians under fire. Long since the only Windows app I run (on Linux).

Scratching through >3years of files to work out what should be saved that hasn’t already been shared… finding enigmatic notes and pictures to myself, like this treasure from Feb 2022, when I was chewing over what I believed to be a balanced organising/bargaining agenda for #tradeUnions on the datafication of our workplaces/workforces/working lives…

Honestly can’t remember all of what I had in mind at this moment, but that left hand stream is too often overlooked.

@ehproque If they can’t explain their decision - and I will spend the rest of my life arguing (hopefully in future with a little help from the lessons from the post office Horizon debacle) that “the computer told me to do it” is not a fucking explanation for ANYTHING - then good luck getting out of that one.
in reply to Jenny Andrew

yes, that's exactly my point: as things stand now, good luck using "the computer told me to" as a justification, but laws (written by twats) could possibly change that (not that facts support it, but when has that gotten in the way)
